The commercial construction industry in Skagit County is booming! For us at Chad Fisher Construction, this is excellent news.
Let’s look at what’s happening in Skagit County and what the current commercial construction outlook is.
Skagit County Marina & RV Park
We start by looking at Skagit County’s Marina and RV Park located in beautiful La Conner. The Skagit County Marina is a popular destination for recreational boaters, commercial fishers, and marine-related businesses.
We can find the marina within easy walking distance of the charming downtown area. Here’s what’s been happening in this beautiful area recently.
Maverick Marine Expansion
Maverick Marine is expanding its manufacturing space. They’re doing this to complete orders for boats that are currently too large for their existing facility.
Here, the Port of Skagit is constructing a whopping 17,266-square-foot building. The port plans to lease this building to Maverick Marine.
Some of the new boats that Maverick Marine will construct in this new facility are commuter-class, 300+ passenger ferries, making them one of the biggest competitors in the boating industry.
The Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) gave the Port of Skagit a $2.25 million loan with a $750,000 grant to complete this development project.
The new facility will be located next to Maverick Marine’s current facility on Pearle Jensen Way.
Skagit County Regional Airport
Located only a couple of miles west of Burlington, Skagit Regional Airport offers stunning views in an attractive and safe facility.
Here, a keen observer will be able to spot the impressive Cascade mountains in the east, the beautiful Skagit Valley, and even take in the San Juan Islands to the west.
While the airport is an uncontrolled field, meaning it has no control tower, its staff takes great pride in their work to keep Skagit Regional Airport in excellent condition.
Here are the latest commercial construction developments happening in and around the airport and its facilities.
Lot 72 Development
Easily the most significant development at Skagit Regional Airport is the construction project on Lot 72. The project continues to move forward at a good pace. It’ll include several large box hangars and an expanded apron space.
The FAA and discretionary backers supplied Skagit County with $2.5-million in 2019 and an additional $2.5-million in 2020 to complete the new apron construction project.
Commercial construction enthusiasts will be able to find this exciting project just southeast of the Corporate Air Center, off Runway 11-29.
Dyberg Aviation Hangar Development
Near Runway 04-22, a private hangar development is well underway. Here, Mike Dyberg of Dyberg Aviation is constructing two separate buildings.
Each building will house 10 new T-hangars. Typically the 04-22 side of the Skagit Regional Airport is home to hangars and services for small aircraft.
Systima Technologies
If you’re familiar with Skagit County and its residents, you would’ve heard about Systima Technologies. They are a research and development company specializing in military and aerospace components. Systima Technology also handles engineering and systems integration.
Their headquarters are expanding to a 7,000-square-foot facility. This new facility will help them grow their operations and workforce to support U.S Defense and Hypersonic Programs further.
SWIFT Center
We can find the SWIFT (Sedro-Woolley Innovation for Tomorrow) Center on the former Northern State Hospital campus.
Today, the Port of Skagit continues to work with essential partners, such as Skagit County and the City of Sedro-Woolley, to revitalize the old campus and turn it into a modern marvel.
Here are the most notable commercial construction projects in the SWIFT Center area.
Southern Influence Area Site Improvements-Phase 1
The Port of Skagit applied to the U.S Economic Development Administration for a grant to complete the design and construction of the Southern Influence Area Site.
This exciting project will see several site improvements, such as grading, utility, and even roadway infrastructure.
These improvements will serve the new high-tech manufacturing buildings that’ll be built in the southern portion of the SWIFT Center property.
Skagit County Construction Labor Is In Demand
With so many exciting large-scale developments happening in and around Skagit County, it’s no surprise that there’s a high demand for qualified construction laborers, construction managers, and expert construction and building inspectors.
This demand actively generates new job opportunities across the county. It’ll eventually draw more residents to the beautiful Skagit County area. All of this promises to make Skagit County one of the top-rated destinations around!
